In 2007 St. Virgil becomes the first church establishment to receive the EMAS Prize

Environmental honours were reserved for a long time to large enterprises such as M-Real or the Salzburg Airport only. For the first time, St. Virgil in Salzburg, a comparatively small enterprise, was distinguished with the EMAS Prize in 2007. St. Virgil received the prize for its successful environmental commitment. DI Josef Pröll, Minister for Environment, emphasised the involvement of the employees in the EMAS process at the award ceremony:  “This is why EMAS has special meaning to me." Especially the involvement of the employees at St. Virgil is exemplary.

Signal Effects Anticipated
For the first time a church establishment has been distinguished. Thus the Department of the Environment wants to send a signal effect. Small and medium-size companies are to feel encouraged to participate in

EMAS

. St. Virgil can be a leading guide in the church setting. As an educational establishment St. Virgil is also suited to play the role of a contact multiplier.

After many years of preparation from St. Virgil environmental team they proudly received the prize. "For a church establishment it is particularly wonderful to bring respect for God’s creation, economy and commitment to the environment under one roof”, stated Director Reinhard Weinmüller, initiator of the project
